What is the difference between smart bulbs and smart lighting?

A smart bulb controls the bulb. A smart lighting control system controls the switches, dimmers, and keypads that run the lights. This makes circadian-style lighting possible. A schedule can provide brighter, cooler light in the morning and afternoon, then warmer light later. When it is done well, the lighting changes naturally without requiring the homeowner to think about it.

Full-color lighting adds saturated colors beyond normal shades of white. It can be useful for entertainment spaces, a lower-level bar or game room, holidays, artwork, or selected architectural features. It does not need to go in every room simply because it is available.

Both smart bulbs and professionally designed systems can offer warm dim, tunable white, circadian schedules, and full color. Not every product supports every feature, so the controls and light sources need to be planned together.
